East Iceland

East Iceland

Renowned for quaint villages, narrow fjörds, dramatic basalt canyons and towering waterfalls, East Iceland offers a wide range of landscapes to be discovered.

Here you will find Hengifoss, who recently regained her crown as the second highest waterfall in Iceland.  Unique basalt canyon Studlagil (Stuðlagil) is only a short detour from the main ring road. The picturesque Seydisfjordur (Seyðisfjörður) with its trademark Rainbow Street is only a half an hour drive from Egilsstadir (Egilsstaðir), the main town of the east. East of Iceland is also home to reindeers, where the mammals stay mostly in high elevations in the summer and migrate closer to the coastal grassland in the winter. And with scenic drives along winding fjörd roads, the journey is as breathtaking as the destinations themselves.
